Pastoral Volunteers

We are recruiting volunteer Pastoral Team Members for Coffee Bar. Do you share our vision for social justice and serving our community? Do you love being present with people without trying to “fix” them?

This role is focused on offering a warm welcome, being present with people and providing one‑to‑one pastoral support through listening and connecting people with appropriate support. We are hoping volunteers can serve at least a twice a month, for between two and four hours.
Eligibility: Applicants must be practising Christians and active members of a Church of England church within the new Parish of Warrington within the Diocese of Liverpool.
About Holy Trinity’s Coffee Bar
We believe God’s vision for Coffee Bar is to be a place of wellbeing and community which strives for justice for the people we serve. Much more than a café, Holy Trinity’s Coffee Bar provides a welcoming, supportive and affirming space for all in the heart of Warrington. Alongside refreshments and community, we offer listening, compassion, prayer (with consent) and practical signposting to people who may be living with poverty, disadvantage, isolation and/or long‑term health challenges. Pastoral volunteering involves:

  • offering a friendly, non‑judgmental welcome to Coffee Bar our guests 
  • providing pastoral and practical care through active listening and compassion
  • helping people access practical support 
  • demonstrating Christ’s love in action
  • working within our safeguarding boundaries
  • recognising when a situation is beyond your role and responding appropriately
We’re looking for volunteers with the following characteristics:
  • A warm, calm presence and an ability to listen well without trying to “fix” people
  • Good judgement, clear boundaries and willingness to follow procedures
  • Reliability and the ability to volunteer at least twice a month
  • Comfortable working as part of a team, including asking for support and handing over when needed/appropriate
  • A mature faith with a commitment to Holy Trinity’s vision of reflecting the love of Christ in the heart of Warrington
  • A passion for serving those crossing our threshold
  • Non-judgmental and comfortable engaging people of diverse needs, backgrounds and worldviews
  • Ability to deal sensitively with people in need while being assertive and remaining in control should you encounter participants experiencing distress, anger or crises
What we offer
Induction and ongoing support, safeguarding training, payment of reasonable expenses and the opportunity to serve alongside an experienced team in a welcoming community setting.
Training, safeguarding and safer recruitment
Holy Trinity is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. We follow the Church of England’s guidance on safer recruitment. Appointment to this volunteer role will be subject to an application process, two references (one of which must be from the applicant’s vicar), safeguarding training and a DBS check at the level required for the duties.
