Born in 2008, Julie Zhang started learning piano at the age of 5. At age 6, she achieved ABRSM Grade 5 with distinction. In 2016, she entered Chetham’s School of Music, studying piano under Mr. Simon Bottomley. In 2018, Julie achieved a Distinction for the ATCL Diploma. Just one year later in 2019, she achieved a High Distinction for the LTCL diploma, also the Second Prize in Category 2 for the EPTA International Piano Competition. Most recently, in July 2022, Julie achieved the FTCL Diploma. Julie has also won many online competitions. Her repertoire stretches from Baroque to Modern music.  Julie particularly enjoys the Romantic Period, especially the sheer beauty of Chopin. Julie also enjoys chamber music and piano concertos.

 

Solomon-Miles Donnelly

Solomon-Miles Donnelly is a 21 year old pianist from Rainhill. He began lessons with Simon Bottomley in 2013 and a year later joined Chetham’s School of Music where he enjoyed 5 years of study. Solomon-Miles has performed in concerts and competitions across London, Jersey, Poland and Belgium in addition to numerous concerts around the North West including St George’s Hall, Liverpool. Solomon has played in concert with Stephen Hough, as well as participating in several of his masterclasses and those of concert pianists Simon Callaghan, Freddy Kempf and Boris Berman.

 

Solomon has been the overall winner of the Rainhill, Warrington and Hazel Grove music festivals and in 2018, achieved his FTCL (Fellow of Trinity College, London) diploma in piano performance. In 2018 he played Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No.2 at the Pennine Spring Music Festival and in February 2019 performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 with Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra. More recently, he was awarded 3rd prize in the V and VI Krystian Tkaczewski International Piano Competitions.

 

He is currently continuing to study piano under Simon Bottomley and is a medical student at the University of Liverpool where he is completing his master’s degree in Acute, Critical and Emergency care.
