We look forward to welcoming   Meera Maharaj (flute ) and  Matt Lam (piano) to Holy Trinity, for their WACIDOM lunchtime concert on 11th February.

Meera Maharaj
Meera Maharaj was born in 1995 and grew up in Warrington, where she began her flute studies with Nicola Gerrard. Now in her final year at RNCM, she studies with Laura Jellicoe, previously having been taught by Juliette Bausor and Wissam Boustany. Previously, she attended the Junior RNCM for six years studying with Helen and Jonathan Rimmer. Meera is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and has played principal flute with the National Youth Chamber Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and JRNCM Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing in a range of RNCM orchestras, she has also played with the CBSO Youth Orchestra. In the 2015/16 season she was selected for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra Professional Experience Scheme, resulting in performances at Media City, the Bridgewater Hall and in Malvern.
In 2016, Meera won the Dutch International Flute Competition. Other competition successes include 3rd prize in the British Flute Society’s “Young Artist” Competition and 2nd prize in the RNCM Solo Woodwind Competition, both in 2015, following on from earlier competition successes whilst at school.
She has given solo performances at the Concertgebouw, the Bridgewater Hall and in many concerts at the RNCM and across the North West. She recently enjoyed performing on BBC Radio 3. She has organised several successful concerts in aid of Warrington Foodbank and Medecins sans Frontieres, in which she has performed with
her flute/guitar duo and as a soloist.
Meera has attended many courses including the Young International Professionals course of the Netherlands Flute Academy, under the tutelage of Emily Beynon, principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Scottish International Flute Summer School, the Oxford Flute Summer School and the International Flute Summer Course in Woldingham. She recently enjoyed performing with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra in the Cantiere Internazionale D’Arte in Montepulciano.
Having won a scholarship, Meera looks forward to postgraduate studies at the royal Academy of Music next year.
Matt Lam
Matt Lam is a 21 year-old pianist from Hong Kong, currently studying at the Royal Northern College of music in Manchester with Frank Wibaut and Jeremy Young. Matt has received masterclasses from professional pianists including Stephen Hough and Kathy Stott. He has been actively performing at local venues and has recently given recitals in Kronberg ,Bad Homburg and Alfriston as part of the Alfriston Summer Music Festival. Aside from solo playing, Matt is also a passionate chamber musician. He has performed with various different ensembles. He is a member of the Mathias Trio, in which were selected to represent RNCM at the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music competition in 2015.
